The Aviation Academy is the first in the country to create a ‘real world’ learning environment that includes full size, working aircraft. It offers a broad education and skills training in aviation, raising the standards of learning using innovative teaching techniques. The Training Academy provides excellent opportunities for local young people and for Aviation Businesses seeking to employee the talents of students trained to the highest standards in the industry.
One of the mainstream programmes within the Academy will see up to 80 new aviation engineers being trained per year, they will start training at the age of 16. Across this and other courses, ASP expect a typical year to see 450 people being trained for local, national and international aviation jobs. The academy will also connect with local schools, colleges and universities, creating opportunities for children as young as eight to link with the academy. They will be taught on the site of a former Second World War aircraft hangar at the airport where a full-size Boeing 737 has been housed so that students can hone their skills.
