The summer of 2015 was the 20th anniversary of Norfolk Police’s Broads Beat team, a vital service covering 120 navigable miles of waterways across the Norfolk Broads. Broads Beat manager Ish Najjar explained that the officers and special constables provided a level of visibility on the Broads akin to years gone by. He said: “People love seeing a police officer, but unfortunately it is getting rarer and rarer these days.

“It’s been proven that seeing the police can help deter criminals, so we can get to remote places that others can’t and try make the Broads a safe place to come and work and play.”

Fifteen local businesses including Blanc Creative sponsor Broads Beat, providing everything but the salaries for the police officers. Training, two boats and equipment are all covered by the cash pot, around £15,000, which is put forward every year, making it the UK’s longest running police and public sponsorship scheme.
